Written by a long-time practitioner of Zen, these clear and grounded meditations will inspire those who seek a greater sense of serenity and interconnectedness. Drawing inspiration from Emerson and the poets Rumi and Hafiz he admired, these poems honor Nature's wisdom to reveal what lies beneath the surface of life by lowly listening and the resiliency to discover our peace within.
Lucy is a happy and playful little spider, but when she can't weave a perfect circle at a web-weaving school like all the other little spiders, she becomes sad. After many tries, Lucy falls asleep, and dreams of the farm Grammy likes to tell her poems about. She asks Grammy to take her there and finds colorful threads from the weavers who live there, lovely wildflowers, bits of hay, and tiny acorns to weave into her lopsided web as she becomes the little artist-weaver she was always meant to be.

Poems of Mindfulness are
followed by poems of Impermanence
which, when fully integrated, can change everything we know about life, including ourselves.
By accepting the ephemeral nature
of all life, we have an opportunity
to engage with our higher presence
and our resiliency to find
the peace within that saves us.

After years of teaching and encouraging
others' imaginations, my friend
Joanna Cole, author of The Magic
School Bus Series, encouraged me to write children's stories. I'll always be grateful to her for opening this door.
Lucy's Lopsided Web celebrates the beauty of imperfection, as a little spider Lucy learns to become the artist-spider she is meant to be.
Its whimsical illustrations by Virginia Garcia from Spain, winner of the International Latino Award for Education, bring added delight
to its message of embracing the beauty of imperfection.
Poetry is also introduced, with lines from well-known nature poems, and "This World",
by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mary Oliver by permission of her estate.
